Greetings from the Dean – Fall 2025

A Feature Story by The Nurses Magazine

As the Fall 2025 semester unfolds, the Berkley School of Nursing at Georgetown University enters a season filled with reflection, momentum, and deep appreciation for the work of its community. In her Fall message, Dean Roberta Waite, EdD, RN, PMHCNS, ANEF, FADLN, FAAN, shares a heartfelt update that celebrates both the spirit and the achievements of Georgetown nurses.

Honoring a Season of Purpose

Dean Waite begins by acknowledging the rhythm of the academic year and the demands that come with it. “As the fall semester moves forward, we often hear the familiar refrain about how busy this time of year can be,” she writes, speaking to a reality that resonates with students, faculty, and staff alike.

Yet in the midst of this busyness, she finds inspiration. Reflecting on the latest issue of CURA, the school’s publication, she shares, “In assembling the latest issue of CURA, I had the opportunity to reflect on the remarkable achievements of our community, and I gained a renewed appreciation for the many ways we animate our purpose.”

For Dean Waite, these stories are more than updates — they are evidence of a vibrant community living out its mission every day. As she notes, “These accomplishments reflect the strength, dedication, and impact of our school and I’m proud to share these stories with you.”

Cura Personalis in Practice

At the Berkley School of Nursing, care extends far beyond technical skill. Grounded in Jesuit values, the school embraces cura personalis, or “care of the whole person,” as a guiding principle. This means seeing each patient — and each member of the community — as a whole person with unique experiences, needs, and dignity.

This fall, that commitment is highlighted in a new Berkley School of Nursing video that visually and emotionally brings the mission to life. Dean Waite shares her enthusiasm for this project: “I’m also excited to share a new Berkley School of Nursing video that highlights our mission, vision, and values through the voices of our incredible students and new alumni. If you have just four minutes to watch it, I promise you’ll come away inspired!”

The short film showcases how values like kindness, respect, and compassion are woven into every part of the Georgetown nursing experience — from the classroom to clinical settings and beyond.

Local and Global Impact

In her message, Dean Waite also points toward the broad reach of Georgetown’s nursing community. Students and faculty engage in work that stretches from Washington, D.C. to international settings such as Tanzania, where nursing students participate in community health initiatives and learn directly from local partners.

These experiences deepen their understanding of what it means to provide meaningful care across cultures and contexts. Whether serving families abroad or supporting patients closer to home, Georgetown nurses are encouraged to listen deeply, respond with empathy, and see each encounter as a moment of shared humanity.

Forming Nurse Leaders for a Changing World

The Berkley School of Nursing is not only preparing skilled clinicians — it is forming leaders who will help shape the future of healthcare. Through rigorous academics, reflective practice, and a strong ethical foundation, students learn to bridge the space between policy and patient experiences.

Dean Waite’s message underscores that the school’s achievements are rooted in people: the students who answer the call to service, the faculty who mentor and guide, and the alumni who carry Georgetown’s values into hospitals, community clinics, universities, and policy arenas around the world.

A Message of Gratitude and an Invitation

As she closes her Fall 2025 update, Dean Waite offers a heartfelt note of thanks to the Berkley School of Nursing community: “Thank you for all that you do. We hope you enjoy our Fall 2025 issue of CURA!”

She also invites readers to help amplify the story of Georgetown Nursing by engaging with the new video on social media. “The video was posted on our LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook. Please consider liking, resharing, and adding a comment to show your pride in being part of the Georgetown nursing community. Let’s spread the word about the remarkable work and spirit that define our school.”

The Nurses Magazine is proud to spotlight this message and to celebrate the Berkley School of Nursing’s ongoing commitment to excellence, compassion, and cura personalis in action.
